Is UPA 2 government tending towards a mid term poll? The question has some very basic and genuine facts in support of this conception or misconception. UPA 2 Government is facing rapid growth in inflation and not has sufficient outlays to overcome the problem. Increasing commodity rates may ire many coalition partners but none of them is dare enough to face the wrath of consequences which may lead to their own debacle except Mamta Bannerjee, who is, nowadays, passing through a litmus test due to upcoming state assembly elections. Her anticipated tie up with the Congress may give undue advantage to opposition Left, which no doubt will encash the situation in its favour. Last Local body elections have proved that the vacuum created by long reign of Left is being filled by TMC not by the Congress. Therefore, Mamta will not take a chance to annihilate her long cherished dream of ruling West Bengal and may quite this non profitable alliance with the Congress before elections. She had taken a different line on the issue of JPC, awful to the Congress. None the less, TMC is the second largest group in UPA 2 after Congress.
The second bad cause is Telangana. The outcome and the proposed alternatives of the Justice Sri Krishna’s report may create havoc in Andhra Pradesh. If the Government goes with the first proposal of the report, many of Congress M.P. will be compelled to resign assessing the mood of their voters and if it goes with the second, the other lot of supporters will go away. In both the cases no God on this earth would come to save the Congress ruled state government on its fall midway. Congress has already made a mistake, first in declaring the creation of separate Telangana and the next morning stepping herself back leaving it to the awaiting report of the Commission, resulted in dismay about her intensions among a large section of students and youth of the smoldering region. It is pertinent to mention here that Andhra is the only major and important state ruled by the Congress.
The way Government and the Congress in particular dealing with the corruption is another factor which leads them to utter confusion. The 2G Scam has already given big dents to the images of the government at Centre and its coalition partner, i.e., DMK. This aging Southern stalwart has got wounded but has nothing to react as his own house is on top of fire. Maintaining balance among the warring son’s supporters and the aspirations of most trusted daughter on one hand and with the tricks and trials of ambitious nephew and senior party leaders on the other. The stalwart is seasoned man of action. In case of weakened Center, he will bargain to the limit. One may recall his bargaining spirit at the time of formation of UPA 1 & at the time of 2 as well, though, he got somehow weakened this time. The state is due for Assembly elections in 2012 and the wounded Godfather will take every chance to regain the power again, if not he, surely his successor will not leave it.
The attitude and the defensive stand taken by the Congress on JPC is another cause to smell something wrong with the confidence of the party.
